Abri d’auto double installé devant un garage dans une entrée résidentielle en hiver

Car shelter installation: how to prepare your driveway before we arrive

Leaving your shelter installation to us? Before we arrive, the main things are to clear the driveway, make all the parts accessible and confirm where the shelter will go. You do not need to be home. We will arrange access with you when planning the visit.

Here is what to have ready so the crew can get to work and put your shelter where you want it.

Still need to book your installation?

Choose the service that matches your shelter type and length. For an 11 × 20 ft single shelter, for example, select the 20 ft length. If you are unsure about the model or anchoring, send us a photo before ordering.

1. Clear the entire installation area

Move your vehicles before the crew arrives, even if you will park them under the shelter afterwards. Remove bins, planters and anything else in the way. The crew needs room to assemble the frame and fit the cover.

Check the route between the stored parts and the driveway too. If the equipment is behind the house, make sure the path is clear and the gate is accessible. If snow or ice is already present, arrange for a clear, safe access route.

2. Bring the frame, cover and hardware together

When a shelter is stored in several places, a box of bolts can easily get left at the back of the garage. Gather the tubes, cover, doors and fasteners in one accessible place. Keep the assembly manual with them if you have it.

Putting up last winter’s shelter or one you bought used? Take a few minutes to check the parts against the manufacturer’s list. If you find a missing part, bent tube or torn cover, send us a photo before the appointment. We can look at what needs attention before assembly starts.

3. Confirm exactly where you want the shelter

“In front of the garage” gives us a starting point, but the details matter. Do you need a walkway to the front door? Where are the steps? Which side do you want to walk along?

A photo from the street and another from the side help us understand the space. Share the dimensions and the access routes you want to keep clear. For a single-slope shelter, also tell us which way you want the roof to slope, allowing space for the snow on that side.

Before settling on the location, check your municipality or borough’s rules. Permitted dates and setbacks depend on your address. Our municipal regulations page links to official sources.

4. Discuss anchoring before the appointment

Already have permanent anchors? Let us know and send a photo showing their positions and the fastening parts you have. Tell us whether the driveway is asphalt, pavers, concrete or another surface.

If new anchors are needed, ask for their supply and installation to be specified in your request. Our permanent anchors are offered with or without installation. Sorting this out ahead of time helps your booking match the work required.

5. Arrange access if you will be away

You do not need to take time off simply to be there. Your presence is not required when we have agreed on placement and access to the parts.

When planning the visit, tell us where the equipment is and how to reach it. If it is in a locked garage, arrange access with us before the appointment. Leave a phone number where we can reach you if the crew needs to clarify a detail.

A quick check before we arrive

  • Vehicles and objects have been moved out of the installation area.
  • The path to the stored parts is clear and safe.
  • The frame, cover and hardware are together.
  • Missing or damaged parts have been reported.
  • Placement, orientation and anchoring have been discussed.
  • Access arrangements are in place if you will be away.

What happens after you purchase the service?

We call you within two business days to arrange the installation. That is the timeframe for the planning call, not a promise to install the shelter within two days. The installation date is agreed during scheduling.

Want to plan spring dismantling too? See our SINGLE installation and dismantling package or DOUBLE package. For an industrial shelter or custom project, request a project-specific quote.

Ready to leave the assembly to us?

Send us your shelter type, length and postal code. Include a photo if the driveway or model needs a closer look. We will help you choose the right service.
